At least 52 people have died in connection with torrential rains causing widespread flooding in Sudan, state media said.

Around 8,000 houses have been destroyed or damaged in the floods.

The UN’s coordinating agency OCHA estimates that around 38,000 people in the country are affected by rain and floods since the rainy season began in May. The masses of water have also destroyed wells and latrines, making it difficult to reach many affected areas.
