At least 18 people have been killed in several attacks in Mali, the country’s military says. The military describes the events as coordinated terrorist attacks and claims to have killed 48 attackers.
In Kalumba, in the southwestern parts of the country near the border with Mauritania, twelve people were killed, three of them civilians. In Sokolo, in central Mali, six people were killed and another 25 injured, five of them seriously.
A third attack occurred in Mopti in central Mali, but there were no reports of deaths or injuries. It is the first time since 2012 that such coordinated attacks have taken place so close to the capital, writes AFP.
Since 2012, Mali has been fighting an insurgency by groups with links to jihadist terror groups. The country has been ruled since August 2020 by a military junta.
