    At least 15 people have been killed and many more were injured in connection with being trampled during the religious festival Kumbh Mela, says a doctor for AFP.

    Panic broke out in connection with tens of thousands of pilgrims rushing to take a sacred dip where the rivers Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati meet in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

    Indian authorities expect more than 400 million people to be crowded at the pilgrimage for the next six weeks.

    Three media workers employed on the TV channel Halk TV, which is close to the Social Democratic Turkish party CHP, has been arrested in Turkey.

    They were arrested just before they would broadcast the evening program on Tuesday, according to the channel’s owner. The Turkish journalist trade union TGS says in a statement that the event “embodies the pressure that is exerted in our profession”.

    Secular CHP is the foremost opposition party to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Islam Conservative AKP.
