The death drinks in Laos: Everyone stayed in the same hostel

Six people died of suspected methanol poisoning in Vang Vieng, Laos.

The suspicion is that their drinks contained methanol.

Now it is confirmed that all the victims lived in the same hostel, writes BBC.

It is already known that three of the dead, two Australian 19-year-olds and a British 28-year-old woman, were staying at the Nana Backpackers Hostel.

According to the BBC, a 57-year-old American man was also found dead in his room on November 13. That same morning, two young Danish women were found unconscious. They later died in hospital.

The hostel is now closed, and the owner has been taken in for questioning. He and nearby bar owners have denied serving homemade or illegal alcohol.

Many dead in bus accident in Brazil

At least 23 people have died in a bus accident in Brazil.

The bus drove off a mountain into a ravine in a remote forest area in the state of Alagoas, state governor Paulo Dantas said on X.

The location is said to be difficult to reach for the emergency services.

The bus was carrying local tourists, who were on their way to a park up on the mountain.

Dantas has declared three days of mourning in the state.

Hundreds of new Nasca lines discovered – with AI

Thanks to new technology, researchers have managed to find hundreds of new geoglyphs in the Peruvian desert, The New York Times reports.

The findings mean that the total number of figures at the site has almost doubled, the newspaper writes.

The so-called Nasca Lines in southwestern Peru constitute one of archaeology’s greatest mysteries. The World Heritage site consists of figures carved into the ground, some of them several hundred meters long – including a 285 meter long pelican.

The lines are at least 2,000 years old, but were only discovered in 1920 by a Peruvian researcher. Since then, a total of just over 300 figures have been found – until now.

In the last six months, researchers have been able to identify a total of 303 new geoglyphs, representing snakes, monkeys and llamas, among other things, in the area. Most of the finds were found with the help of AI and drones.

The Nasca Lines were created by the Nasca people between 500 BC and 500 AD. Despite extensive studies, why they were created remains shrouded in obscurity.
