Many of the country’s universities lack action plans for ongoing deadly violence.
Only 10 of the 25 universities and colleges that TV4 Nyheterna has been in contact with currently have recorded advice or routines.
And only three of them have had practice this year – something that is causing concern among students.
Stockholm University, SLU, Högskolan i Halmstad and Högskolan Väst are some of the higher education institutions that lack a written plan for how staff and students should act in the event of ongoing deadly violence, for example a school attack.
– It is a high priority on our agenda, but we don’t have it in place yet, says Rickard Norén, deputy director at Högskolan Väst.
Few have had practice this year
Among the universities that answered that they have action plans are Uppsala University, Gothenburg University and Umeå University.
TV4’s survey also shows that only three of the 25 responding universities had exercises in ongoing deadly violence this year.
– We don’t have a specific action plan, but a lot is about relying on surrounding blue light functions such as 112, says Rickard Norén, deputy director at Högskolan Väst.
Students want to see action plans
At Södertörn University, several students are calling for access to a recorded plan and practice.
– I think it would be necessary. Not everyone works well under stressful situations, some have blackouts, and they would really need a concrete plan on how to do it, says Isak Gajzago.
– An action plan makes you confident in what to do. And that means that there is not as much panic when you have to go out, says Madeleine Malmberg
