“Vårskrik” is the name of Måns Zelmerlöw’s upcoming tour. It is a reference from Astrid Lindgren’s “Ronja Rövardotter”.
— I found a picture of myself standing and screaming and I thought it was cool. Then I’ve always loved Ronja, even if it might sound a bit pretentious with “Vårskrik”, but can it be on a concert hall tour? says Måns Zelmerlöw.
It is not only the name of the tour that is taken from “Ronja Rövardotter”.
— We have written a song based on “Rövarvisan”, although it will be a Swedish pop song. We’re going to record it today so we don’t really know how it’s going to sound. It could be a stroke of genius or it could be a total flat fall.
In addition to a new pop version of “Rövarvisan”, there will also be a lot of hits. In addition, for the first time you get to hear the contribution that Måns Zelmerlöw had intended to perform in Melodifestivalen 2015, but where it ended up being “Heroes” instead.
— It will also be the songs that I have longed to play live. We are also going to dig up “Hope & glory” for the first time in probably ten years.
The name of the tour is “Spring Scream”. It is taken from Astrid Lindgren’s “Ronja Rövardotter”.”Be more personal”
This is a tour he’s looking forward to extra because he gets to do it with some of his best friends.
— It was a long time ago that me and my band played together, but it was also a long time ago that we had to sit in a tour bus, sleep in a tour bus and wake up in another city.
Although he has extensive experience in touring, both in Sweden and in Europe, this will be his first concert hall tour.
— There is something special about concert halls. You get to be more personal and more artistic than you are on a festival tour where you have to try to keep the tempo all the time. Now I also get the chance to choose songs that mean more to me.
The special thing about this tour is precisely the opportunity to be more personal, he believes.
— I will get to talk about the songs, how I have written them, what stories are behind them, I have never been able to do that before.
A stop in London
Måns Zelmerlöw and his band visit over 20 Swedish cities, but there will also be a stop in London, where he usually lives with his wife and three children.
— It was obvious that we would do it. I have dreamed of playing in England ever since I last played there, which was in 2017.
According to Måns Zelmerlöw, there is a big difference in meeting an international audience compared to a Swedish one.
— They have no expectations of me and that means I get to be exactly the artist I want to be on stage. It’s much more free for me.
— On the other hand, there will be a lot of Astrid Lindgren connections that will probably be difficult to bring to a British club. Like singing “Rövarvisan”, I don’t know if it will go home so we might have to redo it a bit, he says, laughing.
Måns Zelmerlöw and his band record their songs at Atlantis Studio in Stockholm. A busy year
In the past year, Måns Zelmerlöw has had a busy schedule, including recording “Masked singer”, “So much better” and a Christmas concert tour with Carola. In August, he also became the father of another son.
— It has been fantastic in many ways, but the last half year has been a logistics party. Then it’s hard to say no to things when it’s so much fun. But luckily I have a manager who loves logistical chaos.
Now awaits the premiere of “Vårskrik” where the first stop will be in Piteå on March 3. Then he will do a podcast about the Eurovision Song Contest, and after that there will be a long holiday.
“I have promised myself and my family that,” says Måns Zelmerlöw.
