Manga creator Leiji Matsumoto dead

Matsumoto’s sci-fi stories left a deep mark on Japan’s comics and anime culture. Among his more famous works are “Space battleship Yamato”, “Captain Harlock” and “Galaxy Express 999” which also became popular movies and TV series in the 70s and 80s.

In Sweden, Matsumoto became perhaps best known for the anime series “Starzinger”, which was dubbed into Swedish in the 80s. He also collaborated with the French electro duo Daft Punk, among other things in the film “Interstella 5555” (2003). He was also awarded the honorary Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2012.

Leiji Matsumoto turned 85.
