Greenwood was accused of sexual assault and battery. According to an internal investigation by Manchester United, Greenwood did not commit the crimes he was accused of.

Manchester United have unloaded the striker by Mason Greenwood at the end of the club’s internal investigation of the player contract.

Greenwood was charged in 2022 with sexual assault and battery. The criminal charges were dismissed in February of this year, but the 21-year-old striker has not trained with the team.

– In light of the available evidence, the material published online did not give a complete picture of the events, and Mason did not commit the crimes he was initially accused of, United’s press release wrote.

– Everyone understands the difficulties associated with him continuing in the club. That’s why we’ve decided together that it’s best for him to continue his career elsewhere.

United said they would help Greenwood in his search for a new club.

Greenwood, who grew up at United, said in his own release that he understands that people judge him based on what they see on social media.

– I didn’t do the things I was accused of. However, I admit that I made mistakes at the beginning of my relationship, and I take responsibility for the situations that led to the update on social media, Greenwood said

– I thank United, which I have supported since I was seven years old. I’m going to be a better soccer player, father and person. I want to use my skills in a positive way on and off the field.

A year and a half show

Greenwood was sidelined from his team’s activities from January 2022, when he was arrested on suspicion of sexual violence and assault.

The case became public when Greenwood’s ex-girlfriend shared photos and a video on social media, in which she said she was a victim of violence. In February, Greenwood was reportedly cleared of the charges after a key witness withdrew from the case.

Greenwood was not allowed to train with the team after his acquittal, as the club began its own internal investigation.

United’s women’s fans group said at the start of the season that Greenwood’s return would tell women associated with the club that only men and players who make the club money matter.

– If you want to play at the highest level in the biggest club in the world, you have to be ready to behave in accordance with expectations and responsibly, the statement said.

Greenwood had a contract with United until June 2025.
