Man woman charged in separate theft incidents in Chatham

A man and woman have been charged in separate incidents involving the theft of property that occurred on Tuesday in Chatham.

Shortly before noon, Chatham-Kent police responded to a suspicious person carrying a quick saw while walking on Queen Street.

Police located the 33-year-old Chatham man and learned the saw had been stolen during a recent break and enter at a nearby address.

The accused was arrested and charged with being in possession of stolen property under $5,000, police said.

He was released with a short date.

Around 5 pm, police responded to a theft complaint at a Wellington Street West business where officers were given a description of a woman who was allegedly involved.

The suspect was located a short distance away and through investigation he was learned the 49-year-old Chatham woman was wanted on an outstanding warrant, police said.

She was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

The woman was released with conditions and a March 23 court date, police said.
