Crews from four Norfolk stations responded to the fire call just after 6 pm where they found heavy smoke and fire at the home and attached garage.

Jeff Smith, deputy fire chief with the Norfolk County Fire Department, said firefighters quickly gained control of the blaze but damage was extensive. The loss is estimated at $160,000.

“Although firefighters observed smoke alarms in the house after the fire, it is not known if they there were operational at the time of the fire,” said Smith.

He said the house and contents were not insured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
