Man shot to death in Stockholm: “Heard six, seven shots”

The man who was shot at Mälarhöjdens IP in southern Stockholm is dead.
The police have a large presence in the area.
The cordons around the site have been extended and it is noisy at the site.
– There are several people who are said to have seen a suspicious car leaving the scene, says Mats Eriksson, press spokesperson at the police.

The police were alerted to a shooting in Fruängen in southern Stockholm at 18.45. The man who was shot has now been confirmed dead, according to the police. Relatives have been notified.

A witness who was near the crime scene tells TV4 Nyheterna that he heard six or seven shots.

– Several people I have spoken to heard anything from six, to seven, eight to ten shots. There is slightly different information about how many there are. It is a man who has been shot right next to some changing rooms which are currently being kept closed, says TV4 Nyheternas reporter Filippa Fernqvist who is at the scene.

Witnesses: Car left the scene

According to a mother on site, there are about seventy young people housed in changing rooms inside the facility that they are not allowed to leave.

A hunt for the perpetrator or perpetrators is underway and according to information to TV4 Nyheterna, a police helicopter is circling the area.

– We have received witness information which we are looking at now. There are several people who are said to have seen a suspicious car leave the scene, says Eriksson.

Mälarhöjden’s IP is a well-visited facility and there must have been a lot of people at the site at the time of the shooting.

Troubled on the spot

According to TV4 Nyheternas reporter on site Filippa Fernqvist, it is noisy at the site. Youths have been seen shouting sexist words at a female police officer and kicking a police car. In addition, the reporter on the spot has seen upset youths who tried to get past the cordon and get to the dead body.

The barriers have been extended.

Several other young people that TV4 Nyheterna spoke to are shaken and believe they saw the perpetrator after the shots were fired.

According to information to Echo is the shooting connected to the ongoing conflict within the Foxtrot criminal network.

Tonight’s shooting was the second in the area in a short time. Two weeks ago, a teenage boy was shot to death in a residential area in Västertorp – barely two kilometers from the crime scene in Mälarhöjden IP.

The police have opened a preliminary investigation into murder.

No suspect has been arrested, but several people have been brought in for questioning.
