A young man in his twenties opened fire on Jordanian police officers near the Israeli embassy in Amman. The attack left three law enforcement officers injured. The attacker, aged 24, was killed on the spot.
Jordanian police have not provided information on his possible links with terrorist groups.
According to security expert Omar Al-Raddad, it appears that the attack was an isolated act, with no connection to armed organizations: “ This attack has two aspects: there could be a link with pro-Hamas groups and Hezbollah, or it could have motives of revenge against the police. But it is the investigations which will have to determine the reasons “.
An attack described as “terrorist”
Government spokesman Mohammed Momani described the attack as “ terrorist » and promised that those responsible would be punished: “ The state of health of the police officers injured during the attack is stable, and we hope for their rapid recovery. As a government, we fully support them, as they acted in the exercise of their duty to protect the security and stability of Jordan “.
For more than a year, demonstrations have been taking place near the Israeli embassy, in support of the Palestinians and against the war in Gaza. The embassy remains empty, after Jordan’s refusal to allow the return of the Israeli diplomat to Amman.
