The man was armed with a knife and lunged at police when he was shot.
“The suspected perpetrator is hit by the shot and taken by ambulance to the hospital. The injuries are serious but not life-threatening,” the police write.
A policeman was injured in connection with the incident which occurred at 9.15pm on Friday.
The man is suspected of attempted murder.
