The police were alerted at 19.40 about loud explosions in a residential area in central Sätra in Gävle. At the scene, a man was found with suspected gunshot wounds indoors at the Treffen leisure park – he was rushed to hospital by the police.

The shots were fired outdoors.

– They must have shot through the building, towards a door. More than one shot has been fired, says police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin.

The 17-year-old was awake and able to speak when he was taken to hospital and is said not to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

No other person was hit by the shots, according to the police.

Police are appealing for tips

The incident is being investigated as attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences. The police connect the shooting at Treffen to the gang criminal environment.

– We suspect that it is connected to the criminal conflict in Gävle, but loosely organized gangs, says Magnus Jansson Klarin of the police.

The area around the leisure park has been cordoned off. After questioning witnesses, the police suspect that at least two people are behind the crime.

– We are working feverishly with information gathering, including with testimonies and getting any camera surveillance in, says Jansson Klarin.

Now are very keen to get tips from the public immediately.

– We are interested in getting in touch with people who may have seen people or vehicles that deviate from the usual. The people were probably masked.
