A man shot at two passing cars from his balcony in a town outside Umeå. Now he has been convicted of attempted murder, local media reports.

The punishment will be forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge examination.

The shooting drama happened at the end of July. In one of the cars was a man and his four-year-old son.

The car driver first thought it was a stone throw when the windshield broke. Only when he drove on did he see a man armed with a hunting rifle standing on a balcony. Another shot hit the vehicle. No one was hurt, but one of the shots came very close to hitting the child.

A woman was traveling in the second car that was fired upon. She felt several bangs in the car, but did not understand what it was. Only the next day did she discover that there were four bullet holes in her car.

When the police were about to arrest the man, he had a knife in his hand which he refused to let go. The man, who is aged 25, was eventually shot in one of the legs.
