Sarnia police were investigating a possible assault Saturday at a vacant lot next to the Good Shepherd’s Lodge homeless shelter on Confederation Street.
Police cruisers were parked at the site Saturday afternoon and yellow crime scene tape was up around a section of the lot near the street.
“We’re currently investigating a call involving a 48-year-old male who was found unconscious with serious injuries in the 900 block of Confederation Street,” said Const. Nelson Amaral.
The call came in to police at about 6:45 am Saturday. The man was found in the field, police said.
“The injuries appear to be consistent with an assault, although we’re still in the early stages of that investigation,” Amaral said.
“The victim has been transported to London and is undergoing surgery,” he said.
“We’re attempting to identify any witnesses or suspects,” Amaral said.
Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861, ext. 5300, or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers.
