A man in his 70s was seriously injured when the boat he was traveling in collided with another boat in Inrefjärden outside Lövholmen in Piteå on Tuesday evening.
Two women in their 60s were also taken to hospital but are said to have minor injuries.
– The accident happened shortly after 19:00 and there were two recreational boats which for unknown reasons collided 600 meters out into the bay. A boat was about to sink and a person went into the water, says Michael Saveman, commander of the police region North.
There were a total of four people on board the boats, two people on each boat.
– One of them, the driver of one of the boats, is supposed to be seriously injured, but I don’t know how seriously, says Saveman.
The police have set up a preliminary investigation regarding negligence in traffic and causing bodily harm and seized the boats for a possible technical examination.
– We haven’t been able to hear the people yet, but that will be the next step to determine how the accident happened.
