Man seriously injured after shooting in Eskilstuna

The police are investigating a suspected attempted murder in Eskilstuna.

After reports of loud explosions on Sunday morning, a man in his 30s was found with a serious gunshot wound in a stairwell.

– He was initially awake and talkative, says Marcus Anefur, press spokesperson at police region East.

Shortly after 01:00 on the night of Sunday, explosions were heard in the Lagersberg/Stenby area in Eskilstuna. The police were alerted at 01.13 – and at the same time received information about an injured person in the area.

– We locate a person with a gunshot wound, it is a man in his 30s, in a stairwell, says Marcus Anefur, press spokesperson at the police region East.

The police have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder and serious weapons offences.

– We have cordoned off the site for a technical investigation and right now we are also continuing to work with information gathering, witness interviews and so on, says Marcus Anefur.

– We have been in contact with people in the area who have information to provide, but I cannot go into too much about what information we have to move on. It is a sensitive situation, a serious crime has taken place and we are just at the beginning of the investigation.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are considered serious.

– We cannot go into any details about the exact location of the damage or where the damage is, says Marcus Anefur.

– The person was initially awake and talkative.

At 3:30 a.m. no one had been suspected or arrested for the crime.
