A man has been arrested in Japan since he kicked a wild rabbit. The animal is later said to have died.

The incident took place on the island of Ohkunoshima in the prefecture Hiroshima, where more than 1,000 rabbits jump around freely and are often fed by tourists.

According to reports in local media, the police are now investigating whether the arrested 25-year-old can be linked to the many rabbits that have been found dead on the island in recent months.

Since November, 77 dead rabbits have been discovered at Ohkunoshima, the authorities say. The cause of death is unclear.
