In the fall of 2018, a young man was shot to death outside a grocery store in Eskilstuna. The High Court is now dropping a 24-year-old man who has been charged with the murder. He is sentenced to seven years in prison, reports SVT Sörmland.

Last year, the man was released in the district court when the evidence was not considered strong enough.

The prosecution is based on DNA and testimony from a crown witness, and the district court considered that the testimony should be taken into account with “extra caution” and therefore could not lead to a convict. But Svea High Court thus thinks differently and puts greater confidence in the witness.

It was on November 21, 2018 that a 22-year-old man was shot dead with several shots in the Nyfors district of Eskilstuna. The murder happened in front of the eyes of a large number of people, but no one named the shooter.

Despite several tracks, the police could not connect any perpetrator with the deed and the shooting became a so -called cold case.

The turnaround came in 2023 when the police, thanks to new technology, received a DNA meeting on a pair of gloves-as well as a decisive testimony from the crown witness-a murdered 19-year-old who came into exchange for seven years of penalty.

“It is satisfactory that the High Court shares my assessment of the credibility of the main witness and that it was thus possible to use the system of so -called crown witnesses to get convictions in crimes where there is a strong culture of silence,” prosecutor Åsa Kullgren said in a press release.
