Man in Västerås killed friend’s pug – sentenced to prison

The incident took place in February 2022 in a home in Västerås where the man temporarily moved in with his friend. When she got home in the afternoon, she found her pug lifeless on the sofa, next to the now convicted man. According to her, the man said that he bathed the dog and blew marijuana on it.

According to the autopsy, the dog has excessive external violence against various parts of the body. Injuries compared by a veterinarian in the investigation to injuries that usually occur after being hit by a car.

Serious suffering

The district court has ruled that the injuries were caused by the 30-year-old, and were what caused the dog to die – after serious suffering.

Despite his denial, the man was sentenced to one year in prison for animal cruelty and vandalism. He was also convicted of minor drug offences, which he admitted. He must also pay damages of SEK 14,000 to the dog owner.
