Man in UK convicted of rape with the help of AI

When the police in Great Britain investigated a 29-year-old man for suspected abuse of children, they got caught.
Then the help of AI was taken – which helped to bring down the man.
The man was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Police launched an investigation against a 29-year-old man in the UK after a 12-year-old girl reported being groomed on social media and later raped by the man. The man admitted to the investigators that he had sex with the girl, but claimed that the girl said she was 16 years old, writes the BBC.

Several investigative measures were taken and the police were able to establish, among other things, that the man had sex in the same car in which the girl stated that she had been raped. However, there was no evidence that it was the girl with whom he had had sex.

Investigator Dan Coley, who spoke in the channel’s documentary “Forensics: The Real CSI”, says the police also examined both the man’s and the girl’s phones.

– There is nothing there to support the victim’s account of what happened, he said at an early stage of the investigation.

In the documentary that followed the case, he also said that the investigation was in danger of falling apart for lack of evidence.

AI found images and messages

In the same vein, a 13-year-old girl also reported the man for sending her inappropriate messages. The police then took the help of AI to look for digital evidence in the man’s phone. With the help of AI, the police were able to retrieve deleted pictures of children and deleted messages, which proved that he was grooming several children.

In December, the man could be sentenced to 19 years in prison for several crimes, including rape of children.

– This result is important to me. Not only as a parent but also in the hope that ultimately we are there to help and protect children, said Dan Coley after the verdict was announced.

After the verdict, the police have announced that 14 more victims have come forward and that they are now working to investigate the cases.
