Man in Falun convicted of weapons offense – Court of Appeal changes sentence after new evidence

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In the Court of Appeal, the prosecutor has invoked, among other things, new evidence on which the court has taken a decision. Among other things, investigations from NFC, the national forensic center, and DNA traces that link the man to the weapon parts in his basement – but also to weapons found in a car.

Arrested last summer

Last summer the man was arrested in Falu municipality and during the house search the police discovered that the man was probably manufacturing weapons in his basement.

The prosecutor then chose to charge the man with aggravated weapons crime and preparation for weapons crime.

However, the Falu district court did not consider the evidence against the man, which included a patterned curtain linked to another weapons case with a couple from Stockholm six months earlier, to be valid. The 35-year-old and the couple were released.

The Court of Appeal changes the verdict

But based on the new evidence, and that the Court of Appeal also thinks that the curtain is sufficient evidence to link the 35-year-old to the weapons case from Stockholm, the 35-year-old is sentenced to prison.

The man in the couple from Stockholm, who was also acquitted in the district court, is also sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for aggravated weapons offences. A woman is acquitted by the Court of Appeal, as well as in the District Court.
