Man found with weapons drugs police

Drugs and weapons were discovered when an officer stopped a man violating curfew conditions Friday, Sarnia police allege.

After stopping the man, who was known to police and was spotted driving about 90 minutes after his 8 pm curfew, officers allegedly discovered a hatchet between the driver’s seat and door; a spring-loaded baton; a canister of pepper spray intended for dogs; $3,140 in Canadian currency; 59.4 grams of magic mushrooms, with an approximate street value of $890; 65.4 grams of methamphetamine, valued at $6,540; and 20.8 grams of blue fentanyl, valued at $4,160.

The man was arrested in the area of ​​Maxwell and Exmouth streets, police said.

Leslie William Hawkins, 45, of Sarnia, is charged with failing to comply with a release order, drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, and weapon possession charges.

Hawkins remained in custody Monday awaiting a bail hearing, police said.
