A man in his 20s has been found with a gunshot wound outdoors in Farsta strand in southern Stockholm.

– He was taken to hospital and was conscious, says police spokesperson Towe Hägg.

The alarm came in shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday evening from residents in the area who heard explosions.

The police have opened a preliminary investigation into attempted murder. No one has been arrested.

According to the police, there is information that the perpetrator may have fled the scene with the help of a vehicle. There are patrols in the area who talk to witnesses and search with dogs.

– We have cordoned off so that the technicians can work on searching and securing tracks, says Towe Hägg.

They will also look at whether there is camera surveillance in the area.

Initially, commuter train traffic was stopped and the subway turned around at Farsta center after the incident to prevent the perpetrator from escaping with public transport, but traffic is now running again.

The shooting is the second in a short time in the local area. On July 14, a young man was shot dead in Farsta. A 17-18-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of the murder, but was released. The police then stated that the case could have links to criminal gangs.
