A northbound dump truck “failed to navigate the turn and collided with the ditch” at Scott Road and St. Andrews Street about 10:20 am Tuesday, Sarnia police said in a release. “The vehicle then tried to reverse out of the ditch several times.”

No one was injured, police said.

“(The) driver was observed to display signs of impairment and was placed under arrest,” police said. “A search of the vehicle revealed alcohol in a cooler, still cold to the touch.”

Later breath testing indicated a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit, police alleged.

A Sarnia man, 37, is charged with impaired driving, police said.

The truck was impounded for seven days, and the man’s driver’s license suspended for 90 days under the Highway Traffic Act, police said.

Stay calm and brake for deer: OPP

Provincial police are warning drivers in Lambton County to watch for deer on local roads.

Deer are more active during the fall and drivers “should be extra vigilant” for the animals crossing roads, particularly near dawn and dusk when they’re most active and visibility is reduced, a Lambton OPP release said.

Police recommend drivers slow down when deer are spotted near a road, use high beams when there’s no oncoming traffic, maintain a safe following distance between vehicles to allow more time to react, and brake firmly but avoid swerving into ongoing traffic if a deer appears.
