The Inspectorate for Care and Care (Ivo) criticizes the general practitioner who was responsible for the discharge, reports Bohusläningen. The caregivers are also criticized, as it was unclear who was responsible for the man after discharge.
The incident occurred at the end of summer 2020. The man, who was, among other things, severely malnourished and had breathing and mental problems, came to the hospital in an ambulance. He was treated with oxygen and the narcotic drug methadone for his pain.
After a week, the man was discharged, despite poor values. The next day he was found dead due to methadone poisoning. The man’s general state of health may have contributed to the death.
The chartered physician lost his license in 2021, after deficiencies in the handling of 42 patients at various health centers.
