Man dead in Tanum municipality after snakebite

Yesterday, a man in his 50s was bitten by a snake in a residence in Tanum municipality.
During the night the man died.
– The man allegedly tried to throw a snake out of the house, says police spokesperson Jens Andersson.

At 01.12, the police were called to a residence in Tanum municipality because a man in his 50s had been found dead inside. When the police spoke to people who raised the alarm about the lifeless man, information emerged that the man had been bitten by a snake on Saturday, something that Bohusläningen was the first to report.

– They say that the man must have tried to throw a snake out of the house and was bitten in the process, says Jens Andersson, the police’s spokesperson.

The man, who is a foreign citizen, died at the scene, the police said.

No criminal suspicion

According to information to the police, it may have been a viper bite. It is still unclear whether or not the snakebite caused the man’s death.

– It was not a police matter from the beginning. They wanted the police there to determine whether crime was behind it or not. There is no suspicion of crime, says Jens Andersson.

An autopsy must be performed to determine the cause of death.
