During the morning, the police were called to Solna where a naked man lunged at people and vehicles.
During the intervention, when a policeman was beaten, the man has a cardiac arrest and collapses.
Now he is dead, the police say.
Just after half past eight on Saturday morning, the public raised the alarm about the aggressive man, who lashed out at both people and cars.
– The man behaved in a way that is deviant. He made people anxious and people felt afraid of him, says Mats Eriksson, press spokesperson at the Stockholm Police.
When the police then intervened, a commotion ensued.
– In connection with that, a police officer is injured and the suspect then suffers a cardiac arrest, says Mats Eriksson.
The man collapses and the police and emergency services perform CPR before an ambulance arrives.
The police’s actions are being investigated
At lunchtime, the police announce that the man has died and that the next of kin have been notified.
– I don’t know exactly where he was pronounced dead, says Mats Eriksson.
Now the special prosecutor’s chamber will begin an investigation into the actions of the police in connection with the death.
– I don’t want to preempt the investigation that will begin, but it will review the police’s actions and investigate whether we could have done something differently, says Mats Eriksson.
