The woman was reported missing on a Saturday in early November last year, on Monday she was found dead in an apartment in Falköping. Already on Sunday, a man in his 40s had been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. When the woman’s dead body was found, the criminal suspicion turned into murder.

The man has been in custody since November and on Wednesday charges were brought against him. He is suspected of both murder and breach of the peace.

The man has a story of mental illness. He was convicted in 2016 for, among other things, aggravated arson, unlawful threats and violation of the knife law. The penalty was then determined for forensic psychiatric care. In 2020, the treatment shifted from inpatient to outpatient care.

In the days before the suspected murder in Falköping, a chief physician in psychiatry applied for the man to be re-admitted to inpatient care. On the day when the administrative court was to try whether he should be cared for in a closed ward, he was instead arrested as a suspect in the murder of the woman.

According to prosecutor Berit Andreasson, the man and the woman were acquainted with each other before.
