Man charged after officers found stolen vehicle from St. Thomas

A man was charged after officers recovered a stolen vehicle Thursday, Chatham-Kent police say.

An officer saw the vehicle on Talbot Road near Morpeth just after 9 am and confirmed it had been stolen earlier in the day from St. Thomas, police said.

Morpeth is about 25 kilometers southeast of Chatham.

The driver initially failed to stop when the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, police said. The vehicle stopped a short distance away and the driver exited the vehicle.

An Ontario man, 28, is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, dangerous driving, theft from police, driving while prohibited, and mischief, police said. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while suspended, police said.

He was held for a bail hearing, police said.
