A man has been arrested after the explosion at a pub in Gothenburg on Monday evening. According to Göteborgs-Posten can the man, who is said to be in his 20s, be linked to a criminal network in Majorna. Prosecutor Mats Ihlbom, who leads the preliminary investigation, is, however, reticent about both the suspect and the motive behind the incident.
– I cannot comment on any information about who the suspect is, but it is on good grounds that he has been arrested on suspicion of being the one, alone or with others, behind the explosion, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.
It was around 7pm on Monday evening that something exploded at the Sejdeln pub on Andra Långgatan in Gothenburg. According to information to the GP, it must have been a banger that was used in the crime. According to the newspaper, witnesses also allegedly saw a masked person leave the scene on an electric scooter.
None of this information is something that Mats Ihlbom can currently comment on.
– I can say that it is an explosive object that has been used, he says.
As it is early in the investigation, he cannot comment on the motive behind the incident either.
– We have our hypotheses, but we are keeping them to ourselves at the moment, he says.
GP: Can be connected to network
During the night, several people were questioned about the incident, and on Tuesday morning the police announced that they had arrested and detained a man connected to the case.
According to Göteborgs-Posten, those interrogated must also be part of the circle around the so-called Majorna gang.
– It is GP who drew that conclusion themselves based on the sources they have. What I can say is that the person who is detained is under suspicion, that he has been briefly interviewed and that he denies any crime. As long as it is early in the investigation, we choose not to release information because several people may be interesting for the future, says Mats Ihlbom.
Investigates connection to previous events
According to the Swedish Companies Registration Office, the tavern on Andra Långgatan is owned by the same family that owns two other taverns in Linnéstaden and Kortedala, both of which have been exposed in the same way as Sejdeln, GP reports. Without going into details, Mats Ihlbom says that possible connections are being investigated.
– With the information we have, we will of course investigate all three events and check if there are any connections between them, he says.
Witness David: “Luckily people are well preserved”
Daniel Nordström, 43, lives in the same building as Sejdeln. Just a minute or so after he heard the bang, he was on the spot down the street to see what had happened.
– I jumped into the shoes and ran down. Down there, I understood quite quickly what had happened, and that’s when I started the camera, he says.
– Lucky that people are well preserved. I’m amazed that people did as well as they did – it’s almost unbelievable.
