Man arrested in connection to online luring investigation: Chatham-Kent police

A man has been arrested on child luring charges involving a person younger than 16, after Chatham-Kent police received help from Windsor police.

Investigators with the local police service’s internet child exploitation (ICE) unit received assistance from the Windsor police ICE unit, which located the man in Amherstburg on Thursday.

The man was arrested without incident in connection with an online child luring investigation, police said.

A 45-year-old Chatham man faces charges for allegedly attempting to lure a child younger than 16 for a sexual purpose through online communication platforms, police said.

The man was released from custody with a future court date in Chatham.

Police said the victim has been identified and has been offered the necessary support.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be provided as appropriate, police said.

Chatham-Kent police are members of the provincial strategy to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation. This involves conducting investigations into Internet child exploitation offenses in partnership with numerous Ontario police services and law enforcement agencies worldwide.

The investigations conducted by the Chatham-Kent police ICE unit are made possible by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

Liquor bottle thrown at employee, man charged: police

A clash with an employee over a denied cashback transaction landed a man in custody, said Chatham-Kent police.

A man attempted to purchase liquor from a St. Clair Street business in Chatham and requested a cashback transaction on Thursday around 4 pm, police said.

When the man’s card was declined, he became aggressive and threw a liquor bottle at an employee, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.

A 40-year-old Chatham man was arrested for assault, police said.

It was learned the man had several outstanding warrants with the Niagara Regional Police Service and he was held for lease, police said.
