An elderly woman was stabbed to death in an apartment in the Gothenburg area on Thursday.
Now a close man is being held for murder – after calling the police himself and confessing to the crime
– We will interrogate neighbours, says prosecutor Håkan Johansson.
The incident occurred last Thursday evening.
According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, a 35-year-old man called 112 and stated that he had stabbed a woman in her 70s to death.
Police and an ambulance rushed to the home in Gothenburg and found her dead.
– The woman was a relative of the man and it is true that he called the police, says Håkan Johansson, deputy chief prosecutor.
Admits murder
On Monday afternoon, the Gothenburg district court held a custody hearing against the man, who has not previously been known to the police, and chose to remand him on probable cause on suspicion of murder.
– He admits to murder and accepts detention, says Håkan Johansson.
The prosecutor does not want to comment further on what the man told in questioning about the homicide.
– We continue to work with the technical investigation and will hear neighbors and above all him, he will be heard again.
The detainee’s defense attorney does not want to comment.
– My client has asked me to hold off on commenting for the time being and therefore I cannot provide any information at all at this time, says lawyer Arash Khosravi.
