Violence and deception were involved in an incident that resulted in a man and woman both being charged by Chatham-Kent police.

Chatham-Kent police said a 33-year-old Chatham man was released by the court on Jan. 4 after being arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The man was released with conditions not to communicate with or be within 100 meters of the 31-year-old Chatham woman involved in the matter, police said.

Police responded to a domestic dispute at Campus Parkway home in Chatham just before 4 pm Sunday. Police said it was learned an argument between the man and woman escalated when the man allegedly damaged a door and wall, threatened to cause harm to the woman and physically assaulted her.

The woman gave false information to police regarding the man’s living arrangements, police said.

But it was learned through investigation, the man had been staying at the residence with the woman involved in the incident, police said.

The man was charged with uttering threats assault, assault causing bodily harm, mischief and two counts of failing to comply with a release order, police said.

He was taken into custody and held for bail.

The woman was charged with facilitating a breach of a release order and obstructing the police. She was released with a Sept. 11 court date, police said.
