Man accused in Simcoe shooting arrested in Thunder Bay

A man wanted in connection with the shooting of a woman in Simcoe on June 18 is in police custody.

Norfolk OPP said Monday that crime units from Norfolk and Haldimand OPP, assisted by Thunder Bay police, arrested the suspect in Thunder Bay.

Jamel Anthony Evans of North York, Ontario, age 29 is charged with: aggravated assault, careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of loaded, prohibited, or restricted firearm and discharging a firearm with intent

On June 18, Norfolk OPP responded to reports of a shooting at a West Street home just prior to 11 am

Officers discovered a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries, but no further information about her condition has been released.

At the time, police released a description of the suspect, described as a heavy-set Black man with dreadlock hair, wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants.

The suspect was seen getting into a red or burgundy colored SUV parked on Nelson Street, last seen traveling on Queen Street South.

The accused is being held in custody in Thunder Bay.

He will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe at a later date.
