Malmö FF wins the Allsvenskan – after great drama

Malmö FF and IF Elfsborg both had a chance to win SM gold before kick-off at the Eleda stadium in Malmö, and for Elfsborg a draw was enough to clinch first place. At first the match did not start as planned, as supporters were not where they were supposed to be in the stands. But when the ball was in play, it heated up early, when MFF defender Gabriel Busanello ripped off Per Frick’s shirt in the penalty area. However, the measure did not lead to any warning or punishment. MFF then created the match’s first hot scoring chance, when Isaac Kiese Thelin controlled a pass close to the goal – and there would be several heated duels in the first half. Messy in the stands Before the second half started, it got really messy. Flares were thrown from the stands, and the net against the away team Elfsborg was torn down and lit with a flare. After it was announced that the match would be restarted, the fire alarm started sounding as a result of pyrotechnics and the crowd was told by a public address system to leave the arena. After an hour break, the second half could finally start. In the 55th minute, MFF received a penalty, when Kiese Thelin fell in a duel with Buhari Ibrahim in the penalty area. Kiese Thelin then stepped up to the penalty spot and gave MFF the lead. – It’s 50/50, former judge Jonas Eriksson says about the punishment in the Discovery+ broadcast and continues: – Absolutely not wrong, but maybe not quite right either. Malmö FF held on and won 1-0 in front of 21,562 spectators – a new audience record at Eleda Stadium. The SM gold is MFF’s 23rd and the first since 2021.
