Malmer Stenergard (M) on the split among the Tidö parties regarding the duty to report

The Tidö parties have gone ahead with the proposal on the obligation to report persons who do not have permission to be in Sweden, and the issue will now be investigated. Despite the joint announcement on Thursday, an internal debate is ongoing between representatives of the Tidö parties about who should be exempted from the obligation to notify.

According to the Liberals, the Convention on the Rights of the Child means that there cannot be an obligation to report within the school, while SD believes that the Convention on the Rights of the Child does not constitute an obstacle at all.

In Aktuellt, Minister of Migration Malmer Stenergard (M) does not want to answer where the Moderates stand on the issue of exceptions and refers to her wanting to give the investigator peace of mind.

– I do not intend to point out where there may be exceptions, if there will be any, or where the rule should apply.

Has received harsh criticism

The investigation will review whether authorities and municipalities should be obliged to report to the police and the Swedish Migration Agency when they come into contact with people who do not have the right to stay in Sweden.

Municipalities, regions and trade unions have already criticized the proposal, and many critics have pointed to the risk that the reporting obligation leads to a reporting society.

– I object to that description, it is not about individuals who must indicate neighbors or fellow human beings. It’s about public employees in their service being helped to pull in the same direction and ensure that the decisions made by courts and authorities after a thorough investigation are implemented, says Malmer Stenergard.
