Ahead of a looming trade war, China and the EU have agreed to open talks on the EU’s proposed punitive tariffs on electric car imports.
The EU Commission announced barely two weeks ago that punitive tariffs of up to 38 percent on Chinese electric cars could be relevant.
The tariffs said they could become a reality in July, but Germany protested and warned of trade wars and market isolation. The country’s minister of economy, Robert Habeck, is now in China, where he has tried to pour oil on the waves.
It seems to have succeeded. Now China’s Trade Minister Wang Wentao will start discussions with EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis.
– We are far from an end goal, but this is at least a first step on a long road, says Habeck in Shanghai to Tagesschau.

Nigel Farage has faced strong criticism after a TV interview on Friday night. But despite the storm he created, the British right-wing populist is adamant that the EU and NATO provoked the war in Ukraine.
Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer have found common ground during the British election campaign.
Both the Conservative Prime Minister and the Labor leader on Saturday both attacked Nigel Farage – the Brexit profile who challenges the right of the Conservative Party (Tories) – who said on the BBC on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin only acted on Western provocations when he invaded Ukraine. Part of the blame lies with the EU and NATO in their quest to bring Ukraine and other Eastern countries into their community, he claimed.

A man has been found dead by the water in Boge, Gotland.
According to the police, initial information should indicate that the death did not happen recently.

The man has not yet been identified.
According to the police, it is likely that the man has floated ashore from another location. There is currently no theory as to where from.
There is no criminal classification.
– So far it is being handled as a death, says Björn Dahlberg.

The Inspectorate for Care and Care (Ivo) started a case regarding the man in the fall of 2022. Although they tried to contact him on several occasions, they never received an answer.
According to Ivo, the man has deliberately stayed away and failed in his record keeping. Therefore, Ivo believes that he should not continue working as a doctor.

Tens of thousands of Israelis are demonstrating around Israel on Saturday against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the Gaza war, Israeli media reports.
Demonstrations against the Israeli government have been going on for months. An organization supporting the protests estimates that more than 150,000 people took part in Saturday’s protest in Tel Aviv – calling it the largest since the start of the Gaza war, according to AFP.
“Stop the war” and “Take them home”, the protesters’ signs say, among other things. Some have laid down on the ground drenched in red paint to symbolize “Israel’s dying democracy”.
They demand new elections and the release of the hostages taken by terror-labeled Hamas on October 7.
On Saturday night, another separate demonstration took place in support of the hostages and it also drew thousands of people.
