Mali: what are the consequences following the suspension of operations by Canadian miner Barrick Gold?

Mali Bamako begins seizure of gold stocks from Canadian miner

More than a billion dollars in mining revenue by the end of March in Mali: these are the forecasts from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a few days after a seizure of 3 tonnes of gold at the Loulo site Gounkoto where Barrick Gold operates. The Canadian mining group has also announced the suspension of its operations on site. At issue: a financial standoff between the Malian government and the company which has been going on for months. The consequences could be negative for the country’s economy.
