The jihadist threat has not slowed down cotton production in Mali since the country has regained its place as the leader in cotton production in Africa, ahead of Benin, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, with a record production of 760,000 tons for the year 2021-2022.
The information was announced yesterday Saturday by a tweet from the official account of the presidency of Mali. Production is concentrated around Sikasso, in the south of the country, a region less affected by terrorism.

For this campaign, the weather was good and the price was raised to 280 CFA francs per kilo (0.40 euros), confirms Abdel Sy, president of young people for the promotion of cotton at the microphone of Ariane Gaffuri, from the economy department.
” Mali made a record rate this year, with a record of 760,000 which is a first in Mali, but at the beginning it must be recognized that there was a strong involvement of the authorities of the transition who made cotton a priority. .

Before the good health, it must be admitted that initially Malian cotton was in red, cotton fell a little more than 200% and this reason was linked first to the price of cotton which really discouraged cotton growers. This year the government of the transition proposed a favorable price, instead of 250 FCFA they increased to 280 and the price of inputs was also sponsored up to 11,000 which really impacted on the great mobilization of all the cotton-growing areas that have cultivated cotton and which give at least this health to Malian cotton, so today Mali is once again the leader in terms of production this year.”
