Malaysia plans to join the Brics | News in brief

Malaysia is preparing to join the Brics group, says the country’s prime minister Anwar Ibrahim in an interview with the Chinese Guancha news media.

The Brics group is originally made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, a group of developing economies that want to challenge the dominance of Western countries in the world economy.

The group began expanding last year, and now more than 40 countries – including the likes of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Argentina – have expressed interest in joining.
