How did Keanu Reeves inspire the makers? Keanu Reeves plays an animated mech pilot in the Armored Core episode. Two weeks before filming the episode, the actor had bad news for the makers of the series:
Dave, Tim, I have bad news. I broke my kneecap.
Creator Tim Miller and executive producer Dave Wilson were already prepared for Reeves to stop filming after this announcement. But the actor even replied that he had learned the entire line and could take the rail off for 5 minutes at a time to shoot.
Miller and Wilson were so happy to accommodate Reeves. They suggested that Reeves keep the splint on and that his virtual version be shown simply hobbling with a splint.

How did the shoot go? After 2 hours, Reeves’ knee was already hurting. Wilson says the knee was the size of Tim Miller’s head. So they offered the actor to take a break and come back tomorrow.
But to their surprise, Reeves completed filming in just one day. He spent a total of 13 hours on set with a rail. In the meantime, he is said to have only briefly left the filming location to smoke a cigarette.
