Major floods in Sävedalen – sewage flows in the streets

The Ugglum trail is filled with water and closed, as are several underpasses and viaducts. The municipality is working feverishly with cordons to avoid danger to life and health. Despite this, several rescue operations have been required and, among other things, a Västtrafik bus got stuck on the Ugglumsleden.

– We have had to rescue people in cars that drove past the barriers. It is difficult to determine how deep it is, so people take a chance, says Monica Daxler, director of community development in Partille municipality.

Sewage and toilet paper

She explains that the flooding is due to several causes, such as an overloaded sewage system and stream channels that become flooded. Residents have also testified that the drains are so overflowing that sewage and toilet paper have been floating around.

– Now we hope it doesn’t rain anymore. Then the water will recede within 1-3 days. But when the water sinks away, it can damage roads and constructions, says Monika Daxlar.

No personal injuries or water-filled basements have been reported in the affected area in Sävedalen.
