Fake police officers in action, two individuals tied up in the boot of a car, shots fired… And six arrested.
According to France 3 Lorraine, the scene that unfolded in Jarville-la-Malgrange, a suburb of Nancy, is worthy of the crime movies of our youth.
It was 2:30 am on Friday, January 19, 2024, when a patrol from Nancy’s anticriminality brigade (BAC) heard what sounded like a gunshot coming from an apartment on rue d’Alsace. Arriving at the scene immediately, as they were patrolling nearby, the officers noticed that other hooded police officers wearing police armbands were already in action. They assumed they were colleagues working on a night-time operation.
The real cops stop the fakes
But when the BAC arrived, the hooded policemen quickly got into the vehicle and rammed into the car of the real policemen, one of whose passengers was slightly injured. The fleeing car headed towards Nancy, pursued by the BAC car. Just as they were about to be caught, the fugitives abandoned their vehicle and set off on foot. But the fake policemen, quickly caught by the real ones, were arrested and taken into custody. One of them was reportedly hit by gunfire.
Six people arrested
In the trunk of the vehicle, two individuals were tied up. Next to them was a firearm. According to France 3, the shot was fired from an apartment on rue d’Alsace, at the car belonging to the bogus police officers. The apartment in question was searched during the night. The police found drugs.
In all likelihood, this was a settling of accounts linked to drug trafficking.
A total of six people were arrested and taken into custody. But the investigation has only just begun.
