Frida Karlsson’s future announcement shocked the skiing world.
Now Maja Dahlqvist is opening up to do exactly the same.
– It would have been the dream, says the sprint star.
Frida Karlsson is one of cross-country skiing’s great giants, with great success behind her back. Last season, the 25-year-old proved again what enormous quality she possesses, when she came third in the overall World Cup, with a win in the classic Holmenkollen five-mile as the main highlight.
Frida’s shock performance
Otherwise, it was a season that lacked any major championships, but this winter the WC awaits again, and it is something completely extra that we have to look forward to. The Skiing WC 2025 will be decided in Trondheim, in ski-crazy Norway, and then Therese Johaug will also make an attention-grabbing comeback, to say the least. Frida Karlsson is, together with Ebba Andersson, the great Swedish hope then, but during the year, Karlsson has also been noticed for some completely unexpected words about her future in the sport.
Frida Karlsson told in an interview that she could possibly end her career already in three years, after the WC 2027 which will then be decided at home in Falun. Should Karlsson end her career, she will do so at the age of 27, which would be extremely surprising, and her performance caused many to widen their eyes. Even Calle Halfvarsson has announced that the WC at home could be the last thing he does during his career – and now the next star is coming with a similar performance.
“It would have been the dream”
During the year, Maja Dahlqvist moved from Sweden to Trondheim, after living in Falun for several years. Now the sprint star believes that the championship in her old hometown may very well be the last we see of her as an active skier, even though she is only 32 years old at the time.
– The dream had been to finish at home in Falun in 2027, then I could have finished happy, she tells SVT.
At the same time, Maja Dahlqvist says that she is not completely sold that Frida Karlsson will end her career then, but that you should keep in mind that there is quite a difference in age between the two.
– I think Frida will go a little further than that, but you never know with Frida. I hope I go all the way to Falun and am sufficiently motivated then. It would have been the best ending. Three more seasons is optimal for me, says Maja Dahlqvist to Aftonbladet.
