Maja Dahlqvist won bronze in the SC sprint relay.
Once she received her prize, she could hardly believe it was true.
– It’s all just a joke, she says.
The ski season is really coming to an end, but before our stars go on a well-deserved vacation, the SM has been decided in Kalix. Last Friday, there was a sprint relay on the schedule, and no one could challenge the superior Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling, who won WC gold at the distance earlier in the year, and who both compete for Piteå Elit.
“A joke!”
Maja Dahlqvist competed together with Louise Lindström for Falun-Borlänge, and then won a bronze. But afterwards, Maja Dahlqvist didn’t have much to cheer about. Instead, the award ceremony quickly turned to anger when she saw what it was that she had actually won.
The check was large, at least the actual piece of paper of it. But the sum itself was considerably less. Dahlqvist won SEK 250 as a gift card for a hardware store, and afterwards she had a hard time being happy about it.
– It’s all just a joke. Should I stand there with a check that is so big that it goes up to my knees and it says 250 kroner? It will only be embarrassing and stupid, says Maja Dahlqvist to Expressen.

Crashing towards the total
Maja Dahlqvist says that there would have been a difference if the sum had been times ten, but SEK 250 was not much for her.
– It is absolutely incredible. I don’t understand why it is like this. 250 bucks?! It would have been okay if they added a zero, even if it’s not glitz and glamour, she says.
Jonna Sundling and Emma Ribom received the same type of gift card, but for SEK 1,000 each. Dahlqvist believes that even though she won a medal, she lost at the SC weekend.
– I had to pay a fine because I had forgotten my competition chip at home, so now I’m going backwards this weekend even though I win a medal. It’s too bad, she says.
The Swedish Skiing Association believes that they have raised the sums for the SM, but then in the individual races. It is believed that the price sums will be reviewed in the future.
