She has not won a single World Cup race this season.
Nevertheless, the Norwegian Tiril Udnes Weng leads the World Cup by far.
Which has caused strong reactions around the skiing world and above all in Sweden.
Before the season, the International Ski Federation, Fis, changed the rules for the World Cup and it has had major consequences for this year’s season. The distribution of points has been changed and it is now much more even between winning a race and coming in eighth place.
Dahlqvist’s criticism
A World Cup win gives 100 points, while an eighth-place finish gives as much as 69 points. Therefore the Norwegian can Tiril Udnes Weng now lead the overall World Cup without winning a single race this season, a full 100 points down to second Frida Karlsson.

It has caused strong reactions in the skiing world and above all in Sweden, where they now want to change the rules for the World Cup.
– I think the system seems strange this year. It’s better to have 15 eighth places than ten victories, it’s a bit strange, says the Swedish sprint star Maja Dahlqvist to the Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen.

Support in Norway
Dahlqvist is still impressed by Udnes Weng’s start to the season, but does not think it is fair that the Norwegian leads the overall World Cup.
– She has delivered at all distances, so that is impressive. She is strong, but she may not have this super weapon as she has not won yet, says the Swede in the interview.

The Norwegian answer also becomes quite special when Udnes Weng agrees that it is actually strange that she is overall leader.
– It feels a little strange that I am. I haven’t won anything yet, and you should. Therefore, it almost feels a little undeserved that I am. But at the same time, I have performed consistently in all ski races I have competed in, she tells the Norwegian newspaper.
Previously, Nettavisen’s columnist has Torbjörn Nordvall came up with the proposal that the skiers should be allowed to strike out at least two results each season in order to achieve a better distribution of points in the World Cup and not force the skiers to compete every weekend. The Swedish ski profile does not think that the current points system is fair and Maja Dahlqvist agrees that it would be a better solution.
– Something like that, maybe. Until then, the rider who takes part in the most races wins. I think it should be worth more with victories and podium places, says the Swede.
