Maja Dahlqvist now admits what she really thinks about Norwegian arch-rival Kristine Stavås Skistad: “We shall not…”

Kristine Stavå’s Skistad provoked bile fever in the Swedes.
Now Maja Dahlqvist admits what she really thinks of the Norwegian.
– We shouldn’t be too kind to each other, she says to SVT.

Right now, the world’s best cross-country skiers are recharging their batteries after a long season. Soon the preparations will start in full swing for the new season and then it will be off when the World Ski Championships in Trondheim 2025 are held.

Maja’s tough season

Last season was a tough one for the Swedish veteran Maja Dahlqvist. After winning the Sprint Cup two years in a row, she didn’t get it right at all at the World Cup and ended up far down the results lists.

It was all the better for the national team colleague Lynn Svahn who finally found their way again after a few difficult years and lined up victories at the World Cup. She won the sprint cup and came second in the overall world cup, but it could have been so much better if it weren’t for a cocky Norwegian.

Skistad’s behavior

Kristine Stavå’s Ski City really became an arch-rival to Svahn in the sprint races and teased bile fever in all Swedes with his spikes and glints. The Norwegian offered both flinging kisses and hush-hush on the finish line after defeating the Swedes.

Now Maja Dahlqvist admits what she thinks about the rivalry with Norway and, above all, Stavås Skistad.
– When we stand on the starting line, then it’s like Sweden against Norway. But beyond that, it’s like, we’re just people like anyone else. So it’s not that I feel that, yes, but all around, when we’re not on the starting line, then it’s a good atmosphere, says Maja in an interview with SVT.

Dahlqvist is not at all irritated by the Norwegian’s cocky behaviour, quite the opposite, she appreciates that there is some bickering at the races.
– No, I think it’s quite fun. There must be something like that in place as well, I think. So that it will be a little so that you can get everything out of yourself, but also so that there will be a little more interest all around in the sport. That it happens a little and not just that we are too nice to each other all the time, says the Swede to the TV channel.
