Maja Dahlqvist breaks the silence about the health problems last winter

Stronger than ever in the pre-season but a body that didn’t respond at all during the winter.
Maja Dahlqvist’s state of health was a mystery last season.
– It was as if all the parts you need when you train were just knocked out, says the cross-country star.

Maja Dahlqvist30, entered the last World Cup season as the reigning sprint champion. Already at the beginning of October, however, she had felt that something was wrong and in the premiere in Ruka in November she finished 34th in the sprint qualifier.

– It feels like it’s not me who goes. Kind of like I ride with a taped nose, taped mouth and have to max out for three minutes, she said after the race.

Had a very high heart rate

It basically continued like that all winter. The strength was as if blown away in the tracks when the competition season got under way.

– It was a damn special season for me. I had the best training summer in the world, the best ever and was stronger in all tests, says Maja Dahlqvist during the high-altitude camp in Lavazé, Italy.

– It was a bit of a mystery – I still don’t know what was the biggest reason. For example, I had a very high heart rate for nothing, but I wasn’t generally tired, she continues.

Maja still performed

Numerous samplings also did not provide an answer to the riddle. She herself believes that to some extent it was due to the body getting too much stress due to all the training and that it finally gave up. According to her, it is the “only reasonable theory” she can think of. Despite the difficult season, there were finally three podium places in the World Cup and Dahlqvist finished fourth overall in the Sprint Cup.

– It feels like it should have been impossible with the body I had all season, she says.
